Ephraim & Sadie Hatfield
We Invented Art.
Geistulator
Video Excerpt
From Videodrome‘s malicious broadcast signal that permanently altered your mind to The Ring‘s cursed videotape which condemned the viewer to death within a week, Hollywood has often depicted television as a portal to evil. In Geistulator, Ephraim & Sadie Hatfield repeatedly processed the film Poltergeist in its entirety through a series of analog video synthesizers, switchers, and keyers. In the version exhibited here at Greylock Arts, the film’s intense soundtrack acts as a specter upon the visual content with audio modulation triggering video wobulation.
This project was made possible through a residency at the Experimental Television Center.
